Smoothies are a great snack during the summertime and can also be a meal replacement if you are trying to lose weight. Smoothies are filled with nutrients and can be made with almost any ingredients you have available at home. A smoothie is basically a few ingredients blended together to make a form of thick liquid.

The food blender is the ideal kitchen appliance for making all your favourite smoothies. You can make various types of smoothies in the food blender; alcoholic smoothies, fruit smoothies and even health beneficial smoothies. Below are some examples of each type of smoothie you can make.

Alcoholic Smoothie – Rum Daiquiri Smoothie  

This smoothie is mainly constituted from alcoholic liquids that make a refreshing drink. Make sure that you don’t drink too much of it because it tastes so good that you won’t realise that you are drinking alcohol.  

What you will need :  

–          2 cups of ice

–          4 oz Bacardi Dragonberry Rum

–          4 oz Strawberry Daiquiri Mix

–          4 oz Pina Colada Mix  

Instructions :  

1. Put the ice into the food blender and start the blender on medium so as to crush the ice.

2. Add the Bacardi Dragonberry Rum, Strawberry Daiquiri and Pina Colada and mix the smoothie on low.  

3. Pour into a glass and serve!  

Fruit Smoothie – Frozen Blueberry Smoothie  

This smoothie is filled with nutrients from the blueberries. It is a great way to incorporate fruit in you diet. The honey in the smoothie will give it a sweet taste.  

What you will need :  

–          ½ cup of frozen blueberries

–          ½ cup of low-fat vanilla yogurt

–          ½ cup milk –          2 tablespoons of honey (optional)

–          2-3 ice cubes  

Instructions :  

1. Pour all the ingredients into a food blender apart from the honey.

2. Blend on medium speed until smooth.

3. Taste the smoothie. If you find it is not sweet enough, add the honey and blend on low. 

4. Pour in glasses and serve!  

Health Beneficial Smoothie – Basil and Banana Smoothie   

Basil is filled with curative and preventive nutrients that are very beneficial to your health. It provides anti-inflammatory relief, blocks enzymes in the body that cause swelling, making basil an ideal treatment for people with arthritis.

Basil also prevents premature aging and age-related problems and even types of cancer.

What you will need :

–          2 peeled bananas

–          10 fresh basil leaves

–          1 tablespoon honey

–          ¼ cup of ice

Instructions :

Place all the ingredients into a food blender. Blend until smooth and the basil leaves are tiny pieces. Pour into glasses and serve!
