iPhone 2.0 firmware jailbroken before its even out

Posted in Tech/Sci News by Alex Sydell on March 11th, 2008

iPhone 2.0 firmware jailbrokenThe folks at iPhone Dev Team are at it again, and this time they’ve jailbroken iPhone firmware before it was even released.

Apparently they got a hold of the new firmware that ships with the SDK, decrypted the disk image, and completely unlocked it. The screenshot shows some apps running on the new firmware.

Unfortunately, the unlock won’t work with AT&T iPhones yet. However, as always, we’re sure that will change in only a few days.

This should send a clear message to Apple - stop trying to lock down your devices. They’ve unlocked them before, and they will keep doing it as long as Apple keeps trying. Apple, do us all a favor. Please?

iPhone 1.1.3 jailbreak is out!

Posted in Tech/Sci News by Joel Levin on January 24th, 2008

iPhone JailbreakThe wonderful iPhone Dev Team has been hard at work, and now thanks to them we have a jailbreak for the 1.1.3 firmware (the iPhone update released at Macworld).

There’s a few catches though, as always. First of all, the update can currently be performed from a Windows machine only, with the Mac version of the updater coming soon. Secondly, it requires an already jailbroken 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 iPhone.

Thanks iPhone Dev Team, keep up the good work!
