Apple to unveil new plans for iPhone next week, 3G iPhone also rumored

Posted in Tech/Sci News by Alex Sydell on February 28th, 2008

iPhone Software RoadmapDue to delays, Apple had to cancel the event planned for the last week of February and postpone the release of the much-anticipated iPhone SDK. It looks like a new announcement date has been set - March 6th.

One of the biggest gripes about the iPhone is its closed-source nature. With the announcement of an SDK, we will finally see third-party applications making their way to the iPhone. These new apps will allow users to take full advantage of their shiny, touch-screen toys.

Apple’s invitation to the event was sent via email and worded like this: “Please join us to learn about the iPhone software roadmap, including the iPhone SDK and some exciting new enterprise features.” It will be interesting to see exactlywhat enterprise features Apple is dreaming up.

In addition to all of this, yet another 3G iPhone rumor has sprung up. Analysts are predicting a 3G iPhone by mid-year, and that EDGE production will ramp down early so Apple can clear out current iPhone inventories.

It’s an exciting time for the iPhone, and we hope to keep hearing good news in the coming weeks and months that we can pass on to you.

Third-party iPhone apps to come via iTunes?

Posted in Tech/Sci News by Alex Sydell on February 17th, 2008

iPhone apps via iTunesIt looks like those official third-party iPhone applications may be making their way to our phones via iTunes. A slip-up by Tiny Code revealed the following:

“Tiny Code no longer produces fixes or applications for firmware 1.1.3. We can’t say much, but we are working with Apple and with their SDK for the next firmware release and SDK applications and we shouldn’t be missed for long. We will no longer update our Installer.app repo for legality reasons and you should see us soon on iTunes.

The message has since been taken down from the site.

Maybe Apple is giving developers and easy way to sell their apps, and maybe Jobs wants to make some money from the iPhone SDK (rumored to be announced soon) for himself. Either way, it looks like this rumor may have some truth behind it.

We’ll post more info on the iPhone SDK when it’s announced, so stay tuned!

Apple event rumored in the last week of February

Posted in Tech/Sci News by Alex Sydell on February 7th, 2008

Apple ShowtimeAhhh, the Apple rumors are flying once again and this time it’s an event that could take place toward the end of this month.

Although nothing is for certain, the source seems credible so mark the week on your calendars. Of course, no one has any idea what the even will be about, but speculation is that it will announce the iPhone SDK that Apple has been promising for some time.

Of course, we won’t mind a 3G iPhone or a new laptop, but either way be ready for some exciting updates - be it hardware or third-party applications on your iPhone.
