Minority Report-like interface on display at CeBIT

Posted in Tech/Sci News by Alex Sydell on March 11th, 2008

This year’s CeBIT has certainly had its share of surprises (police raids, anyone?). This Minority Report-like interface, captured on video by an attendee, is our favorite find from the show.

On display at the T-Online booth, the interface consists of a huge screen where several people can pretend to be Tom Cruise play with the device at the same time. Using just their hand, visitors can move objects around, rotate, resize, and interact with them.

Is this the beginning of a Pre-Crime department, or just another take on Microsoft’s Surface? Either way, it looks fun to play with, although we can’t imagine how practical the system would be. Check out a video after the jump. Read more »

Microsoft Surface coming sooner due to high demand

Posted in Computers by Alex Sydell on February 4th, 2008

Microsoft SurfaceHave you heard of the Microsoft Surface? If not, it’s essentially a replica of an iPhone, only with multi-touch, powered by a full-blown computer, and with a much, much bigger screen. This thing is absolutely awesome - come on, who doesn’t want to be able to play with their coffee table?

Well, due to high consumer demand to bring this toy to their homes, Microsoft has announced that they plan to have Surface available sooner than their original five year prediction.

First, though, the tech giant still has to fulfill orders from the hotel, casino, and retail industries. Seeing as they are already behind, the future does not look too optimistic.

We hope, however, that Microsoft can keep its promise. A Surface might be replacing our coffee tables when it goes on sale and the sooner, the better.
