Netflix could soon make its way to Xbox 360 and PS3

Posted in Tech/Sci News by Alex Sydell on February 12th, 2008

Netflix logoXbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners rejoice! It appears that Netflix streaming video could soon be showing up on your consoles.

The speculation comes from a recent Netflix survey which asked, “If as part of your Netflix membership you could instantly watch movies and TV episodes on your TV with your PS/3 or XBOX 360, how likely would you/anyone in your household be to do that?”

The survey goes on to say that consoles would be able to play streaming media using a “special Netflix disk.” It gets even better! Netflix claims that there wouldn’t be any fees except for the subscription fee you are already paying and a one-time $3 charge for the disk.

Video on consoles seems to be a pretty small market for the rental giant, so we’re not quite sure if they’re ready to offer the service just yet. If the rumors are true, though, this would be a great alternative to Apple TV.

Immersive video eyewear by Vuzix - great for multiplayer games

Posted in Gadgets by Alex Sydell on January 20th, 2008

Vuzix iWearVuzix has introduced their new AV920-C model in their Video iWear line due in February 2008. The personal video display will connect to Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, and other devices such as DVD players, iPods, and the like to provide an immersive experience and the equivalent of a 62-inch TV screen.

The really innovative feature of this headset is the ability to split up a multiplayer video game screen so that each person wearing a headset sees only his part. This way, four buddies need not each squint at a tiny quarter of a TV when playing a local Halo match, but can instead see their portion in full 62″ glory.

A price has not been announced, but based on their other headsets this should sell for around $400. At that price, you are probably too rich to be playing video games to be able to afford 4 of these things. However, for anyone that can get their hands on some, I expect that the experience would be thrilling.
