3D touchless user interface in the works

Touchless user interfaceNorwegian company Elliptic Labs is working on a new touchless user interface technology which could revolutionize how we control our computers and portable devices.

The system is capable of detection movements in all directions with no need to touch anything or wear a special sensor. Just waving your finger around in the air does the trick. The technology lets you manipulate objects in 3D from up to 5 feet away.

If that doesn’t do it for you, how about this: Elliptic claims that the system is compact enough to fit into a mobile phone. Looks like this thing could be the first challenger to the iPhone’s intuitive navigation system.

Check out some demo videos here.
