Tiny personal helicopter for those with a death wish
Posted in Tech/Sci News by Alex Sydell on February 5th, 2008
A video of an extremely small personal helicopter has surfaced. You just sit on a little chair under the helicopter and it takes you into the skies.
Although it looks incredibly fun to fly, the sound and look of those rotors right above your head means we won’t be getting on one anytime soon.
Video after the jump.

Not very good, needs a lot more work done on it.
Hovering in “ground effect” is easy.

I wonder, however, how high it can go. That’s what makes or breaks a “personal sized helicopter”.

If it could land on water, it wouldn’t need to get much altitude-
what a way to go fishin’

it’s an rc helicopter
being controlled by another guy

So what if it’s an RC copter, you could just hold the remote in your hand and fly it yourself? A quick hack of the remote and you could have the controls on those little metal rods hanging down. Job done.

I asked the pilot how long it had taken him to build it, and he said “Pardon?”

If you put the blades about 10 feet up, with a platform for sitting or standing, and (if you noticed how he was guiding it, more like a hang glider) some way to grip the “legs” to control direction…
This wouldn’t be half bad…it would only have to get you 25-30 feet off the ground, and it won’t need a license to fly one…this could be a “quick and dirty” answer to traffic. ANd the thing is small enough to “park” it in a parking stall…
Not a half bad idea…
I wonder what MPG it gets…

yeah… pretty sure it’s not about to be adopted to escape traffic. sorry. drunk helicopter driving? air traffic? what about bad weather? it’s one of the coolest hobbies ever, but don’t be looking for a quick ride to work. I doubt it’s legal.
